The aim of this course (RFH) 701 is to teach and learn the principles and practice of reproductive and family health to postgraduate students in the Faculty of Public Health. It is a faculty wide course to learn the concept of reproductive and family health, have basic understanding in the reproductive health needs and problems of children, adolescents and youth, women of reproductive age and men group. This course also exposes students to how to plan, implement and evaluate any reproductive health services. The methods of teaching includes didactic lectures, discussions, problem solving approach and presentations. For instance, issues on reproductive health policies are taken as presentations. Evaluation of students on the course include take home assignments, in-of-course test and end-of-course examination. The course runs for 13 weeks.  

Welcome to the course ‘TRADITIONAL PRACTICES, GENDER ISSUES AND SAFE MOTHERHOOD’! In this course, you will learn about traditional practices such as early marriage and female genital cutting. You will also learn about gender rights, gender issues, and safe motherhood which all play a role in the health outcomes experienced by women all over the world but most especially in developing countries such as Nigeria. Together with other resource persons on this course, our aim is to provide you with a better grasp and understanding of these issues

In this course, you will learn about the epidemiology of selected childhood diseases, such as malaria, measles, polio, TB, pertussis, diphtheria, tetanus, Hepatitis B, yellow fever, etc. You will learn about various concepts and strategies that have been used in the prevention and treatment of common childhood illnesses, as well as the different child survival strategies. You will come to understand the integrated management of childhood illnesses and how this is applied in prevention. The resource persons for this course bring academia, practice and policy to the table to further enrich your learning experience.
