To equip the student with knowledge and skills required for the clinically appropriate use of the clinical biochemistry services.

Specific Objectives

At the end of this posting, the student should understand the selection and interpretation of biochemical tests that are used in the assessment

·        disorders of the liver

·        disorders of renal function

·        disorders of endocrine function

·        disorders of intermediary metabolism

·        benign and malignant neoplastic diseases

·        biochemical changes due to physiological changes

·        disorders of lipid metabolism

·        disorders of bone metabolism

Assessment methods

·        During the posting, there will be 2 assessments during practical sessions. The nature of this assessment will be short answer questions. These 2 assessments will be score over 50 marks each.

·        At the end of the posting, there will be an end-of-posting examination. This will be in a multiple-choice question format. The end-of-posting examination will be scored over 100 marks.
